In the 1960s, Korea began to build apartments as part of an economic development policy that began with the rise of an authoritarian government. Mountains and rivers were covered, and the entire country became the same residential space. The apartments that have become Korea’s representative residential space today are not simply homes, but the inevitable pinnacle of economic and cultural desires.The panorama, which is a collage of photographs, shows the abandoned and alienated landscapes of the outskirts during this process. Like an inverted glove, the back of the place where the outside is projected upside down reveals the flow of desire and aspiration for a home. Will she, who spent her childhood in a house with a yard before the development boom, be able to realize her lifelong dream of a small garden where she can grow her own food?
즐거운 나의 집
1960년대 한국은 권위주의 정부의 등장과 함께 시작한 경제 개발 정책으로 아파트 건립이 추진되었다. 더불어 수도권 집중 개발 정책으로 인구가 몰리고 주택난이 심해지면서 산과 강을 덮고 전국이 똑같은 주거 공간으로 확산되었다. 현재 한국의 대표적 주거 공간이 된 아파트는 단순히 집이 아니라 경제적, 문화적 욕망의 필연적인 꼭짓점이 되었다. 사진 콜라주로 이어 붙인 파노라마는 이 과정에서 버려지고 소외된 변두리 풍경을 보여준다. 뒤집어진 장갑처럼, 외부가 거꾸로 투영된 장소의 이면은 집에 대한 염원이자 욕망의 흐름을 드러낸다. 시골 마을의 마당 넓은 집에서 유년기를 보낸 그녀는 자기 먹거리를 스스로 일구려는 작은 텃밭에 대한 평생에 걸친 꿈을 이룰 수 있을까?
Sweet Home was invited to CYFEST 16: Archive of Feelings. A Journey and exhibited in Yerevan, Armenia (2024) and at the Centro de Cultura Digital, Mexico City (2025). Presented within an exhibition exploring the intersection of personal memory and collective place, the work examines the landscape of housing and the structures of desire in contemporary Korean society, framing them as broader questions about the city, memory, and shared social emotions. Since its founding in 1997, CYFEST has been an international media art platform showcasing experimental practices that connect technology, art, and society.
《즐거운 나의 집》은 CYFEST 16: Archive of Feelings. A Journey에 초청되어 2024년 아르메니아 예레반과 2025년 멕시코 Centro de Cultura Digital에서 전시되었다. 개인의 기억과 집단적 장소성이 교차하는 이 전시에서, 한국 사회의 주거 풍경과 욕망의 구조를 다룬 이 작업은 도시와 기억, 사회적 감정에 대한 동시대적 질문으로 소개되었다. CYFEST는 1997년부터 이어져 온 국제 미디어아트 플랫폼으로, 기술과 예술, 사회를 연결하는 실험적 작업을 소개해 왔다.
