About the Work
I arrive at the same place in a different time.
The narrator returns to her hometown after decades away. The neighborhood is gone; only the empty house of her childhood remains. Moving from room to room, she recovers memories she had long forgotten.
There are moments when entering the room someone once inhabited reveals more than their words ever could. The objects left in place, the residual scent, the traces of habitation — these speak the person wordlessly. A room, as private space, is a kind of self-portrait.
Through a house where past and present coexist, the work traces the idling of the self and the mirage called hometown.

같은 장소를 다른 시간에 도착했다.
화자는 수십 년 만에 고향으로 돌아간다. 동네는 사라지고, 어린 시절 살았던 빈집만 남았다. 그녀는 방에서 방으로 이동하며 잊고 있던 기억을 떠올린다.
타인이 하는 말보다, 그 사람이 거하던 방에 들어섰을 때 그를 더 잘 이해하게 되는 순간이 있다. 배치된 사물 하나하나, 방에서 풍기는 냄새와 분위기, 머무른 흔적들이 비언어적인 방식으로 그 사람을 드러낸다. 그렇기에 사적인 공간으로서의 방은 일종의 자화상이다.
과거와 현재가 공존하는 장소로서의 집을 통해, 자아라는 느낌의 공회전과 고향이라는 환영에 관해 이야기한다.
