Rhythm Scape is a video work created during a year-long residency at Palbok Art Factory. I repeatedly walked through the industrial district, between factories and railway tracks, by day and by night, observing the different rhythms of time that coexist within the same place.
The work began with an interview I encountered by chance in the archive of Palbok Art Factory. The woman speaking had spent her youth working at a cassette-tape factory in the 1980s. Her voice carried not only memories of labour, but also the traces of an era as lived through an individual body. By placing her voice in dialogue with the present-day industrial landscape, I sought not to reconstruct the past, but to explore how memory resonates again within a place in the present.
The film moves between the activity of daytime and the stillness of night, between mechanical repetition and sudden interruption. The sound of rewinding tape and rapidly passing landscapes create overlapping layers of time. In the latter part of the film, a figure dressed in red workwear walks, pauses, jumps, and dances through the industrial district at night. Rather than explaining the place, the body senses and moves through the rhythms accumulated within it.
If walking along a road is a movement through space, listening to rhythm is a journey through time. Rhythm Scape brings together walking and listening, archival material and the present-day landscape, exploring how time accumulated within a place can encounter the body again in the present.
리듬 풍경

《리듬 풍경》은 팔복예술공장에서 1년간 머물며 제작한 영상 작업이다. 나는 산업단지의 공장과 철길 사이를 낮과 밤으로 반복해서 걸으며, 같은 장소 안에 공존하는 서로 다른 시간의 리듬을 관찰했다.
작업은 팔복예술공장의 기록보관소에서 우연히 발견한 한 여성 노동자의 인터뷰에서 시작되었다. 1980년대 카세트테이프 공장에서 청춘을 보낸 그녀의 목소리에는 노동의 기억뿐 아니라 한 개인의 몸을 통과한 시대의 시간이 남아 있었다. 나는 그녀의 목소리를 현재의 산업 풍경과 교차시키며, 과거를 재현하기보다 기억이 현재의 장소 안에서 다시 울리는 방식을 탐색했다.
영상은 낮의 분주한 움직임과 밤의 적막, 기계적 반복과 갑작스러운 정지 사이를 오간다. 되감기는 소리와 빠르게 흐르는 풍경은 서로 다른 시간의 층을 만든다. 후반부에는 붉은 작업복을 입은 인물이 밤의 공장지대를 걷고, 멈추고, 뛰고, 춤춘다. 몸은 장소를 설명하기보다 그 안에 축적된 리듬을 감지하고 통과한다.
길을 따라 산책하는 것이 장소의 이동이라면, 리듬을 듣는 것은 시간 여행이다. 《리듬 풍경》은 걷기와 듣기, 아카이브와 현재의 풍경을 연결하며, 장소에 축적된 시간이 어떻게 현재의 몸과 다시 만날 수 있는지를 탐색한다.
