Each day, I repeatedly walked the same routes while recording photographs, moving images, sound, and writing. At first, I thought I had come here simply to look at an unfamiliar landscape. Over time, however, this distant place began to feel like a mirror through which I could look back at the places and memories I had left behind.

In Tynset, landscape was never a fixed view. The same path appeared differently each time depending on light, weather, time, and the condition of my body. There was also a constant gap between the paths shown on the map and the places my body actually moved through. Getting lost in the forest made this especially clear, revealing that maps and actual places, as well as records and lived experience, exist in different temporalities.

Rather than attempting to represent or preserve landscape, this project observes how a place is continually formed through the acts of walking, looking, and remembering. Landscape is not a finished image, but an ongoing process of “becoming-place,” continually transformed through the relations between body and memory, distance and time, and human and nonhuman worlds.

The project consists of two different videos. One is a photo essay composed of 180 photographs and narration; the other is a non-narrated video made entirely from moving images and field recordings captured in Tynset. Although both works record the same place, one reflects on landscape through language and memory, while the other allows landscape to be experienced through image and time themselves.

The Farthest Mirror — Photo Essay, 2026Single-channel video, approx. 8 minPhotography, narration, sound Landscape, Moving Image, 2026Single-channel video, approx. 17 minMoving image, field recording The Farthest Mirror is a landscape research project developed over the course of a one-month residency in Tynset, Norway, in 2026.
